Sad day on the Ranch

Well today I was sheriff, judge and executioner. I had a rooster that ran amuck. Pecking at the other roosters, hens and Freedom. Freedom (the one we've kind of adopted) doesn't bother anyone. He(the rabid one) was chasing Freedom all over the yard and wouldn't give it up. Not just a little ways but all over the yard! Well, I happened to see it when I came out of the barn after feeding the cat(Gizmo) so I jumped on my "Gator" and took off after them yelling at them to "Cease and desist". Well it was falling on deaf ears.(I'm not sure chickens have ears). As I roared up behind them, Freedom veered to the right just as Rabid noticed me behind them, hot on their heels(well they don't have heels but you know what I mean.) Rabid puts on a burst of speed now heading for the chicken coop and I've got my foot to the floor trying to get a few more rpm's out of the engine.
We're on the home stretch and I finally catch up and have to decide what to do. I'm sure Rabid is thinking he's Ichabod Crane and I'm the Headless Horseman from Sleepy Hollow. Do I let it get in with the rest of the flock and then have to lecture it on being good and quit being such a bully. He won't listen, I've had this talk with him before. He "cluck, clucks" like he's repentant but he's not. I know he's not, he knows he's not. We'll just have to do this all again another time.
All these thoughts are going through my mind in a nano second. Enough is enough. We've got 20 chickens and they're only putting out 6 eggs a day. That kind of leads me to think we have 14 roosters and nobody needs 14 roosters.(especially crabby ones!) Guilty! Death!
I drove over it and it is now not with us any more. I think it was an object lesson to the rest of the flock as things seem to have settled down in the chicken coop. Not that they will be increasing egg production but will at least behave civilly.
I don't think I'll have trouble sleeping tonight. Justice was carried out.
