Great long weekend

Red headed woodpecker just behind our RV
Hi to everyone.  We've had a restful long weekend and got to run into Canmore and Okotoks.  We even had Sunday off and got to go to church.  Here are a few pics of our long weekend.

Easy day

Well we had an easy day yesterday.  Even had time to take a hike.  Weather was just right for hiking and no rain intruded upon our day.  Have added a few pics.

We hiked for several miles and I guess that was enough for us on work day.  Campgrounds are full in anticipation of the long weekend.  Weather should be great.  Today we're heading into Canmore to visit friends.  It is nice to get away.  I bet our friends in the states would like some of this moisture and cooler weather.  Bye for now.

They're baaack!!

It has been a couple of weeks since we saw the bears but they are on the move again.  Just got a report that they were in Canyon Campground just 5 kilometers from here.  Mom and 2 cubs.  Collared with radio telemetry so we know where to keep an eye on them.  Probably means they are heading our way.  My camera is ready!
Fireweed
I told you I love this stuff.

Campgrounds are filling up in preparation for the long weekend.  Hopefully it will be nice weather for everyone.

Close encounter

I was driving back to the RV after putting away the firewood for Boulton Store. (about 10:30) so it was dark out.  I went around a corner and came within 10 feet of having a bull moose sitting on the hood of my truck.  Good thing I wasn't going very fast as the speed limit in the park is only 30 km.  Got a good surprise out of that and didn't even have time to get out my camera before he was gone into the brush.  Take my word for it he seem huge.

Raining today but supposed to be nice this weekend.  Bye for now.

Smooth as glass

How about these pics that I took this morning:  Make sure you click on them to magnify the pic.

Aren't they great?  I even put up the large files so you can see how nice it is.

Terrific Weekend

We just got back from our weekend(Friday and Saturday).  Everyone is heading West to go camping in the mountains and here we are heading East to spend the weekend in the city. (Calgary).  Well not really Calgary, more like Dewinton which is just south of Calgary.  Our friends were out of town so they asked if we would like to take a break at their place while they were out of town.  Well naturally we took them up on that.  It was like a short vacation in Tuscany.  Here are a few pictures of the flowers at their place.

Saturday we went out to Saskatoon farms to get a Saskatoon pie.  We should have bought some hanging plants also as they were for sale for $15 each.  Here are a few pictures of our visit there:

Well I guess that's about it for our weekend and now it is back to reality.  Work!!!  At least  the weather is really nice.  That should make the week go faster although this upcoming weekend is the long weekend here in Canada so that should be interesting.  Bye for now.

Bears

Over where we keep our supply of firewood for the camps, we have this storage area for the conservations officers.  Notice the 2 bear traps in the back and the bear scat up front.  I'm sure the bear was saying, "You don't scare me!"

Doesn't this look tranquil?
This is Lower Lake Day Use area.

Tomorrow is the start of our weekend so we are looking forward to that.  The weather is supposed to be nice so we are going into the big city and spend the weekend there as opposed to everyone else heading out here to camp.  Probably won't post for a few days so bye for now.  Stay cool for all those enduring the heat wave in the states.  We sure haven't got it here.

Fireweed

Today was another day working at Boulton Creek Campground.  There weren't too many checkins and checkouts so we went out to get gas  and take a few pictures.  We saw our first fireweed (Epilobium angustifolium) so you will see a few pics of it.
And here's another..
Two beauties!!
These are the only fireweed we have seen so far.

Do I love these flowers or what?
And more fireweed..

We saw mama moose but didn't see baby.

I guess we finish the blog off today with our pet Chipmunk.  Bye for now

Weather Cooperating

It is a beautiful day so thought we would go out for a hike and have a picnic.  We went to Lower Kananaskis Lake  and had  some great picture picture taking opportunities.
Highway 40 to Canmore or Longview just above the date.

Guess who?
Another beauty.

This is a another picture of Loon Lake fed by Kent Creek.
That's not us on Lower Lake.
That's the dam on Lower Lake plus boat ramp.

White flower, not sure what it's name is.

Wild strawberries are just starting to ripen.  Within in the next month I plan on picking them and blueberries and there are a few others, cloudberry, buffaloberry, crowberry and wild red raspberry.  Sounds ambitious.  Better get out and enjoy the sun. Bye
