grizzly excitement

I was doing my rounds  about 6:30 and I was the first to spot a grizzly walking between the store and our A campground.  We called it into the Conservation Officer (Park Warden) and they were out with the bear dogs to track it down.  It stayed by the road so i could see it for about 10 minutes but I didn't have my camera with me.  Murphy's Law!!  And I was only about 15 feet away in my truck.  From now on I will be keeping my camera with me.  Well time for bed.  Maybe we will see it tomorrow.  Sure glad I'm  not sleeping in a tent!!

Kananaskis Upper Lake

We went for a drive today when all our work was done over to upper lake.  It is only about 3 miles from where we are at.
Here's another shot of Upper Lake.  It is a day use picnic area and boat launch.

When the snow starts to melt the lake level should rise about 7 feet or so.  Well that's about it.  Time to have a nap and get ready for the influx of campers that will be coming out for the Canadian long weekend.  Albeit it is only Wed. and it doesn't start until Friday.  A lot of the campers come out early and drop off a tent  and then pay for the site even though they don't come back until Thurs. or Friday.  Makes it easier for us as the campground fills up and there are very few people around.

Another beautiful day

There are some nice vistas around here.

Lake is still down a bit but snow should start melting soon.

This is down by the walk in campsites.

Double rainbow

It has been kind of crazy weather.  Nice, then rainy, then nice again, then cloudy but I did come up this nice shot of a double rainbow.

Today is very nice again.  California weather!!  Enjoy it while we can.

Kananaskis Country

Rockies west of Calgary
Well last week I thought we were going to be working out at Spray Lakes (south of Canmore) for the summer.  Well that has changed and now we will be relief managers at the Boulton Creek and Lower Lakes campground.  It is much better as we won't have to buy a generator as they have full hookups plus wifi.  A little bit busier campground but paved roads and biking trails.  Also it is further from civilization (about 50 miles) but who's counting?

Great Skiing in the winter

Behind the shop in this picture they have a staff campground of about 5 sites with full hookups(free).  We met some of the staff and everyone is so friendly.  It looks like we will have a great summer, if it will only stop raining!!
Well that's the new news.  House sitting for another week.  Better watch a few more DVD's on the big screen as it feels like the first of Nov. outside.

A new adventure

Well a week has passed and we are starting on a new adventure although we still have about 2 weeks left in the house sitting.  We are going to be camp ground managers for the Spray Lakes West camp ground in Kananaskis Country.  We will be about 10 miles south of Canmore on the west side of the Spray lakes reservoir.  It has 50 primitive sites (no electricity, sewer, and only pump water. Vault toilets.)  I guess we will be in charge of registration, sale of firewood($7/bundle or $20 for 3  can you believe it?), and clean up of sites.  We will have to buy a generator but they will cover the fuel costs.  Here are a few pictures of our trip out there to check it out.

It doesn't sound like we will be too busy except for maybe on weekends and especially long weekends.  The weather is a little bit cool right now due to the rainy weather but hopefully it will be nice when we get there.  Lots of time for reading and watching DVDs hiking some of the easier trails.  Don't really think we are up to some of those high elevation hikes.  Great views but you have to be in shape.  We'll see what happens by summers end.

A few more pics

A good day to stay home and read a book.  I suppose some people are mourning Vancouver's loss at the Stanley Cup finals but I'm glad it is finally over for this year.  So there.

Rain, rain go away

It has been 9 days since my last post and I think it has rained for 7 of those days.  Maybe not all day but enough to make it dark and dreary.  I know of places in Texas that would love to get some of this.  Everything is really green and lush and the weather breaks every 4 or 5 days so that we can cut the lawn.

We were out to Kananaskis country, south of Canmore on Mon.  There was a break in the rainy weather so we decided to do a day trip.  Here are a few of the pictures.

Well we didn't see any bears but we did see some sheep and the mountain vistas were breath taking.  In another 10 or 11 days our housesitting will be over so we better start thinking of where we will spend the summer(if we get one :-) )We might check into whether their are openings in one of the local provincial parks.  We'll let you know.  It is supposed to rain for the next few days and I hear that Okotoks might be flooding again or at least a high water advisory.  Interesting weather.  Take care.

Red pepper relish

We were out grocery shopping and got a good deal on peaches so decided to make some red pepper relish.  It turned out pretty good but didn't make much.  It is my mother's recipe.  Tastes great!  Peaches and red peppers!

We took a picture of the mountains and there is a lot of snow up there.  Couple of weeks and it is going to rushing down the slopes!!
With  all the rain we've been getting the grass is growing fast and furious.

I love cutting the lawn!!  Have to cut it between the rains!

Where is the sun?

We've been house sitting 4 days now and the sun has been hardly out plus it has been raining off and on since then.  Here are a few pictures of last year here when it was nice outside.  We're also watching  the other house in the back ground.

I guess they were taken in August and it is only June 4 so why get excited.  It is getting down pretty cool at night, mid 40's F.  I sure enjoy the hot tub at those temps.  Tomorrow is supposed to be pretty nice so we will get out and enjoy.  Heard it is getting up to 100 down in Texas.  I love those temps.  What ever the weather.  Enjoy everyone.
